One example of this is the UFA Swiss Climate Feed (USCF) project, which aims to reduce methane emissions from dairy cows with a specially developed mineral feed. This feed, which contains natural plant extracts, improves the cows' digestion and reduces methane production. The project is financed through the sale of CO2 certificates, which companies and private individuals can purchase in order to take responsibility for their own unavoidable emissions. The emission reductions are externally audited and verified in accordance with the international ISO 14064 standards.
In addition, fenaco invests in the future viability of agriculture by promoting innovation as well as young professionals. Programmes such as the myclimate Company Challenge motivate young talents to actively engage with the topic of sustainability and develop creative solutions for the challenges of the future. This myclimate educational programme has already been implemented twice with great success and will also be carried out in the future together with fenaco apprentices.
fenaco's energy efficiency programme, which was launched in 2014, has made a significant contribution to sustainable development over the last ten years. Through targeted measures to increase energy efficiency in its own operations, fenaco has achieved considerable savings. In total, over CHF 63 million has been saved during this time. This shows how successfully fenaco is implementing its strategy to conserve resources and achieve net zero by not only reducing energy consumption, but also benefiting economically.
