Frank Noe will set a spectacular world record with the project this winter: He will tackle the highest, fastest and coldest crossing of the Alps by bike – at 5000m altitude, without artificial oxygen, at -20 to -30 degrees and for 3-4 hours in a hot air balloon.
Since the first published news about Frank Noe, his project and myclimate's participation in the project, a lot has happened.
The shooting of the 80-minute documentary is going on as planned and the test flight in the hot air balloon in the «Allgäu» was a great success. The Broadcasting Corporation «Bayrische Rundfunk» was also there live and has already reported on the action.
With big steps towards the goal, lots of joy, enthusiasm and decisive tests, the preparations now continue in the next few weeks with:
- the start of Noe's special altitude training. He will sleep in an altitude tent and train regularly in «thin air» to acclimatise,
- a major medical check to rule out any unforeseen health risks as best he can,
- a 3 to 4-hour training session at -20 degrees in a cold chamber and another training session under «real conditions» in nature, high up on a glacier.
THE5000+ is also linked to a fundraising campaign for the international aid organisation World Bicycle Relief, which supports people in rural developing countries. With this, Noe wants to make it possible for people affected by poverty to be mobile by bike in the future. You can support the campaign here.
In addition, interesting live talks with Noe, his team and various partners and supporters will now follow. After the first talk on 10 October, myclimate together with the digital platform SteigUm will also be talking to Frank Noe at a live talk on 7 November at 12 noon. You can find the link here shortly before the event.
