Swiss Olympic was recently announced as one of the 2024 award-winners by the International Olympic Committee (IOC). In particular, the award recognises Swiss Olympic’s efforts to reduce greenhouse gas emissions via the Swiss Olympic Climate Fund, developed in collaboration with myclimate.
The fund allows sports associations and clubs to put a price on unavoidable greenhouse gas emissions and make a corresponding climate protection contribution and, at the same time, actively implement climate protection projects. Since the fund was set up, around a year ago, various projects have been carried out, such as the installation of a heat pump at the Frauenfeld indoor swimming pool, which saves around 500 tonnes of CO2 emissions a year.
myclimate is delighted with the IOC’s decision. The recognition underlines the importance of the climate fund for Swiss sport. Today, thanks to the commitment of various Swiss Olympic partners and other organisations, lots of different sports are receiving financial support for sustainability measures, including sports that, because of their size and influence, can only afford to make a small contribution to the Climate Fund and wouldn’t have the means to run their own fund.
