Sustainability in the Graphics Industry: Fröhlich Info AG Leads by Example

Fröhlich AG and myclimate have been working in successful partnership since 2009. This year, once again, Fröhlich has had its carbon footprint calculated by myclimate and made corresponding climate protection contributions. An interesting finding that emerged from the process was that part of the site’s heating needs are being met by the heat generated by the printers.

When it comes to sustainability efforts in the graphics industry, Fröhlich Info is a shining example. The company strives to reduce emissions in various areas of its operations. For example, it uses recycled and environmentally friendly types of paper and exclusively employs mineral oil-free inks and chemical-free offset printing plates in order to reduce the impact on the environment.

Another area targeted by Fröhlich AG is its electricity supply: since 1999, it has generated its own electricity using solar panels, supplementing it with additional solar power.

When calculating the carbon footprint, myclimate also determines unabatable emissions. Fröhlich Info then makes a climate protection contribution in the amount of the calculated unabatable emissions. This contribution goes to a climate protection project in Madagascar, as part of which myclimate supports the manufacture and distribution of efficient cookstoves. The use of these stoves means less wood needs to be gathered from the forest for cooking purposes; this reduces both the strain on the forest and carbon emissions while improving biodiversity and air quality (for more about the project, go to: Back to the Green Island with Efficient Stoves in Madagascar).

This comprehensive approach by Fröhlich Info AG enables it not only to avoid and reduce carbon emissions but, at the same time, contribute to climate protection efforts – completely in keeping with the myclimate motto of “avoid, reduce and contribute to climate protection”. Fröhlich Info AG was one of the first companies to include the emissions of all its activities – and not just individual products – in its carbon accounting, which is further evidence of its complete commitment. myclimate is delighted to continue working with this pioneering business, its longest-standing partner in the printing sector.
