Together with other organisations, myclimate strongly supports the substitution of firewood and stone coal as energy source in rural China. Both solid fuels, besides emitting greenhouse gases, cause health problems through heavy air pollution.
Since the project start in January 2009, traditional coal stoves are substituted by new efficient gas stoves heated with biomass in the Chinese province Shanxi. Corn is traditionally cultivated in the region and the cobs can be used as biomass fuel. With the substitution of stone coal and wood through renewable biomass, deforestation is reduced, harmful air pollution decreases and less greenhouse gases are emitted.
