For the decision-makers at Godelmann, it was a logical step not only to make their company climate neutral through the successful partnership with myclimate Germany, but also to have the life cycle assessment of their products documented by the international climate protection initiative in the form of an environmental product declaration. «For more and more customers, it is important that the environmental data is correct. We take this into account with our corporate philosophy», explains Andreas Voigt, manager of the Godelmann flagship store in Berlin. For this reason, the building materials manufacturer Godelmann commissioned myclimate to prepare an environmental product declaration for its concrete paving stones. For the company from the Upper Palatinate, an EPD offers several advantages. «With the environmental product declaration, we document the environmental impacts of our products during the production phase. They also provide us with valuable information for our product development,» explains Andreas Dück, Key Account Manager.
The experienced experts at myclimate Germany have specialised in the preparation of environmental product declarations (EPDs) for many years and are officially listed as life cycle assessors by the IBU - Institut Bauen und Umwelt e. V. (Institute for Building and the Environment). «We advise companies individually and guide them successfully to their desired environmental product declaration. With advice and solutions from a single source, we accompany companies throughout the entire process - from data collection to the final presentation», explains Irina Brehm, Project Manager Advice and Solutions at myclimate Germany.
EPDs contain comprehensive and standardised information and data on the life cycle of a product. This data is verified by independent experts before an EPD is published in the IBU programme. As a result, they are then available for the planning and sustainability assessment of buildings, for example. Godelmann specialises in the production of concrete paving stones and has a modern and efficient production plant. In the five-year cooperation with myclimate Germany, the company has already implemented many measures to avoid and reduce CO2 emissions. For example, the Upper Palatinate-based company uses green electricity, heat recovery and closed water cycles in production. In addition, they offset all unavoidable residual emissions via the Gold Standard carbon offset project developed by myclimate «Saving communities enable women in Kenya to cook efficiently». Through the successful partnership with myclimate Germany, Godelmann bears the distinction of being a «climate-neutral company».
