Nature lovers enjoy spending time in the great outdoors, admiring the beauty of nature. But these activities often leave undesirable traces – the manufacture of functional outdoor equipment comes with a corresponding climate impact. The industry is conscious of this dilemma and has responded with pioneering inter-company sustainability initiatives. In 2003, 19 leading worldwide outdoor companies came together to form the European Outdoor Group initiative and develop sustainable, ethical business practices.
The outdoor industry has launched numerous projects and already made significant progress. The initiative is based on three pillars: ethical and sustainable business, nature conservation, and motivating people to take part in outdoor activities.
Networking: a key factor in reaching net zero targets
myclimate already has a long history of cooperation with the outdoor industry. Companies such as Vaude, the Oberalp Group, Exped, Edelrid, Polygiene, Frilufts Retail and early bird already work with myclimate. In recent years, myclimate has also been the Climate Partner for the European Outdoor Summit, the EOG’s main annual event.
Kai Landwehr, Global Marketing Director and Member of the Management Committee at myclimate, who also has extensive experience in the sports clothing industry, stresses the importance of this step: “In particular, the joint, cross-business approach of the outdoor industry, enshrined in the EOG, presents such an admirable example. It is our hope that with our experience, expertise and services like smart PCF, our calculation software for product ranges, we can help EOG develop even more sustainable ideas, concepts and innovations. Because the initiatives successfully launched and brought to market here attract the attention of the textile and consumer goods industry worldwide.”
As the official climate protection partner to ISPO, Europe’s largest outdoor trade fair and a member of the EOG initiative, we already have experience of intensive cooperation in this area. The annual trade fair gives us an opportunity to showcase our ideas and solutions in the areas of climate protection, sustainability and reduction of greenhouse gas emissions that we have developed with industry partners and private individuals.
myclimate will once again be at ISPO this year (28–30 November) where it will present its innovations, including our latest solution for calculating product footprints in retail businesses. Come and visit us at our stand in the GreenroomVoice pavilion in hall A1.
